All members and parents are invited to attend the 2012 AGM. It will take place on Friday 23 March 2012 in the school at The Church of St Philip and St Paul with Wesley, Scarisbrick New Road, Southport, PR8 6QF from 7.30 to 9 pm.

The continued success of our club relies on the input of its members and we are always keen for new members and parents to come on the committee to add new ideas as to how we can run and improve our club.

All committee positions will be up for election and if you want to nominate yourself or someone else for any of the positions you can do so by emailing Steve using the form here

***PRESENTATION NIGHT THIS FRIDAY 27 JANUARY***

Don't forget this Friday night is the Southport Netball Club annual Presentation Night. The celebrations start at 7.30 at Southport Rugby Club, Waterloo Road, Hillside, Southport.

All members and their families are welcome. Tickets are priced at £5, buy at training or pay on the door.

There will be presentations for all teams and a review of the 2010-11 season for all teams and players along with a buffet and dancing until late!

We have secured some great raffle prizes as well so come along and support your club.

Seniors celebrate unbeaten first half to season

The senior team hit the town to celebrate an unbeaten first half of the season in the Liverpool League.

At the halfway point Southport are six points clear after winning the top of the table clash with fellow promotion hopefuls Greenbank. Hopefully the team can continue their winning form into the new year to gain promotion and bring Southport back into the first division.

Umpiring Course

Merseyside are running a C Award Umpiring Course on 5 November at Wirral Grammar School. If anyone members are interested in going on this course please let Nina know by emailing southportnetball@yahoo.co.uk by no later than 21 October.

Rock of Ages!!

A rocking time was had by all at our fundraiser on Saturday. The theme was Rock of Ages and the awesome costumes can be seen here.

Thanks to everyone who made the event happen, particularly The Prohibition for their excellent music. Steve is also available for weddings and parties following his guest appearance on stage!

Seniors reach semi finals of Bebington NC Tournament

The Seniors put in a great performance at their first tournament of the summer. The Bebington Netball Club hosted 24 teams from all over Wirral, Merseyside and North Wales. Southport were drawn in arguably the toughest group with Unilever and Dolphin, top teams from the Birkenhead League and Stanley Park from the Liverpool League.

The squad of Faye Speed, Azell Bartells, Jessica Dale, Nina Dawson, Kerry Huyton, Lizzie Barnett, Kirsty Mahony, Jade Robinson and Jo Makin fought hard in their group games to win all of their games and finish top of their group. In the semi final they were pipped by Taurus who took the game 9-8 to make it into the final against Merseyside Police.

SENIORS PIPPED IN PONTINS FINAL

The first team enjoyed their most sucessful Pontins tournament ever this year fighting off competition from 60 teams from across the North West, Wales and the West Midlands to reach the Final of the Prestatyn Pontins Tournament.

Day one saw some challenging games as Southport were placed in one of the more difficult groups with previous winners Evesham Reds and Challenge Cup opponents Dominoes. Defeats against both those teams dampened spirits slightly after Friday night's dancefloor action. With three wins in the afternoon however Saturday closed with the team on a high.

The seniors rallied on Sunday morning to win three and draw one against a tough Warrington team. Those results would usually see a team finishing fourth or fifth, but the difficult group draw helped Southport as four teams finished on the same points with Southport finishing the group stage in second on goal difference.

The first knockout round of the day saw Southport fight off competition from Liverpool League opponents Rembrandt and come through the second knockout round and quarter finals unscathed before meeting Jelly Babies, who Southport had narrowly defeated in the group stages, in the semi final. A much tougher game was had in the semis and some good defensive work from Louise Dale, Azelle Bartells, Kate Hodkinson and Kerry Huyton at centre helped Southport battle through to the final round.

The final pitted Southport against last years Champions Evesham Reds. Southport had good support in the crowd from fellow members of the Liverpool League who had stayed to cheer and despite hard work in defence with Jenna Astwood harrying their centre court and some striking attacking play from Julia Culshaw, Nina Ferris, and Jo Hulse and long range shooting from Kirsty Mahony, the nerves were clearly on display as Southport were forced into errors by the strong Evesham team. Unfortunately for Southport, Evesham held steady to take advantage of any errors and take the final and the trophy.

The team were not disappointed though as everyone had performed over the weekend and it gives the squad confidence going into the Liverpool winter season, where the team are aiming to beat last years fifth place finish.
